The German medieval rock band Feuerschwanz had a great chance of performing at the Eurovision Song Contest this year - but shortly before the final preliminary round, the rules were suddenly changed. The jury eliminated several bands before the viewers could vote for the final participant in the ESC 2025, and jury chairman Stefan Raab in particular attracted negative attention with a comment. According to him, the selection of participants must take into account that “women don't like metal” – which accordingly led to Feuerschwanz not making it to the final of the German preliminary round, even though they were the clear audience favorite.
“We know that's not true”
Feuerschwanz came up with a clear message in response to this statement: “Ladies Knight”. Next year, a concert will be held exclusively for women (cis and trans), intersex, and non-binary people who mostly identify as female.
Feuerschwanz violinist Stephanie Pracht comments:
“Raab's statement that women don't like metal has contributed to our inspiration. We know that's not true and want to prove it with ‘Ladies Knight’.”
Of course, the whole band is preparing accordingly:
“The guys are styling themselves specially, there's a special wig for the captain. We're still thinking about what the program will look like exactly.”
What's more, Feuerschwanz are expecting a full house for the show, which will take place in Heidelberg – despite high demand for additional venues.
“The feedback has been very positive, and ticket sales have been great. We expect the concert to be sold out. Many girls have written to us saying they want this in their town too. We want to create safe space concerts – this one is intended to be one for our female fans.”
